The Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighter's Association is a registered charitable society.

Q. What does the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association do?

A. The purpose of the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association (MIVFA) is

(a) To raise funds and provide financial support for firefighter functions,

(b) To foster firefighters and community spirit through organized events,                                   

(c) To provide encouragement and support for firefighters and their families.

Q. What are Firefighter Functions?

Firefighter Functions refers to any and all functions and / or events hosted and/ or organized by or through one or more firefighter(s).

Note: Functions must be approved by the board of directors prior to the function to be considered a "Firefighter Function" and to be eligible for funding.

Q. Is the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association a recognized society?

 Yes. The Mayne Island Firefighters Association was incorporated on May 15th 2000. Originally incorporated on January 17th 1994, however had become inactive in 1996. It is also a charitable society, meaning all donations over $10 qualify for a tax receipt. Q. Is the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association part of the Fire Department or part of the Mayne Island Improvement District?

No, the MIVFA is NOT a part of the Mayne Island Improvement District, which operates the Fire Department. The MIVFA is a separate entity.

Q. Where does the Mayne Island Firefighters Association get money from?

The individual Firefighters pay society dues to the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association. In addition, we receive donations from individuals like you to fund MIVFA.

Q. Where does the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association spend its money?

The Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association owns and maintains the firefighters Social Hall, which you know as the second school house <../images/socialhall1894.jpg>of the Mayne Island School. Most of the funds are spent as operating expenses for the Social Hall such as insurance, heating and minor repairs. And of course, Halloween, Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast, Firefighters Stand Down Family Dinner.

Q. What does the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association do for Mayne Island and it's residents?

The MIVFA hosts the annual Kids Halloween Party, we supply the Mayne Island School children with pumpkins to carve for Halloween, and host the Annual Mothers Day Pancake Breakfast. Members meet the Santa Ship in December to help welcome Santa and his helpers and give them a lift up the road to the Agricultural Hall, as well as many other less recognized helping hands. Members participate in the annual Fall Fair Parade as well. All costs associated with firefighter functions are paid by the Mayne Island Volunteer Firefighters Association. This is why we need your generous donations. Thank you to everyone who has donated in the past and will donate in the future.

Q. What is the Firefighters Social Hall used for?

The Firefighters Social Hall is used by your firefighters mostly following regular Fire Practice on Tuesday evenings. Other groups have used the Social Hall for meetings and gatherings. On several occasions lectures relating to Firefighter training have been done in the Firefighter’s Social Hall, as well as regular Fire Practice drills. In the event of an Island Emergency such as earthquake, the Firefighters Social Hall will be made available for emergency workers. The Firefighters Social Hall has a small kitchen for emergency workers to prepare something to eat and couches to rest on when possible.
