The Firefighters

Mayne Island Fire Rescue firefighters are a group of approximately twenty-five Mayne Island Residents and Firefighters committed to the fire protection and emergency needs of this island and it’s people. The firefighters are on call by emergency pager 24/7 every day of the year. Training consumes the majority of time that the members of the Fire/Rescue put in every year. The Firefighters train a minimum of two hours every Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9pm, plus many additional programs and courses throughout the year.

Volunteer firefighters are ordinary people who do extraordinary things for their communities. They give their time to perform the same life-saving work that paid firefighters do.

Your Firefighters train to meet or exceed reconized standards for firefighting. In addition to basic training, they also attend training workshops and courses - both On and Off Island, to further increase their level of professional skills.
A front-line firefighter must be safe, effective, and efficient. This is accomplished by constantly training and practicing to maintain and improve their firefighting skills.

About your fire fighters and their responsibilities...

A Firefighters tasks include: deploying hoselines, conducting interior search & rescue, interior fire attack, ladder deployment and roof operations, forcible entry, ventilation operations, overhaul, investigation...and much more.
The Firefighters are trained to perform these tasks requiring the use of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to work safely in the 'red zone' where toxic smoke and gases are present.
Your F
